Obviously this is not complete, but it will give you a great start and if possible get your Thai girlfriend to help you expand on your vocabulary. If you’re interested in more Thai language guides leave a comment telling me what you need to know and I’ll do my best to put together additional guides. And if you want to hear the phrases maybe I can get Golf to record them and we’ll post them up here. As always, I’m here to help in anyway, just leave a comment and ask.

Hi, I would like to ask this.
How can I ask her, whether we are considered a couple, or in a relationship in Thai? It’s a complicated, and delicate situation right now, so I would really appreciate some help with this translation.
Thanks a million.
wa khaai ka = what do you wanna say?
can someone please translate this to english?? –> wa khaai ka
Hi ! what is the meaning of this ” na ka tee rak ”
Thanks for help !
it means , very cute baby
Tee rak means “love” as in “my love” or “darling”. Na ka is just a polite and sweet suffix and has no intrinsic meaning on its own.
It means : Thank you Darling….teerak is darling…..na ka is a polite term for thank you.
hi, i hope someone can tell me what this mean:
ปลดกเลดทดลปทกสกสเ
Disconnect the ground lead in the SVG t vertices.
I don’t think it means much of anything. For one thing, the last letter is in the wrong place and can not sit after a consonant. It just appears to be random letters of the Thai script.
Hello Thank You for putting up this site it really helped me out huge! I met my Thai girlfriend here in Vegas while she was here on an internship i met her the first month she got here in April and we hit it off from the start after two and a half more months by the end of June she had to leave back to Thailand to finish her last year left in college she made me promise her that i would go to Thailand to see her again and be with her. I’m saving up now and heading to Thailand in October and staying for two months we video chat about twice a day for hours at a time and Im really in love with her and im hoping she is with me i met her mother trough video chat as well and Ive been trying to learn the Thai language ever since she left and wen i stumbled onto this site i got her to smile the biggest smile wen i started to tell her some of the things here like u are my angle and sweetheart and things like that so THANK YOU i will marry this girl one day =)
Love it a lot. Can you please translate this
1) mai mao mai kub baan
2) Ruk mai no kon ni
Well I don’t know if this is still wanted, but the first one… I think it say : ไม่เมาไม่กลับบ้าน – that would translate into : not drunk, don’t go home and I would transliterate into : mai mao mai glab baan
The other one, I am not sure about “no” I think that You maybe mean roo then it would be : rak mai roo khun nee or : รักไม่รู้คนนี้ and that could be translated into : Love don’t know this person… But again I may be wrong on that one…
.
I believe number 1 is saying ” I don’t want to go home”
However please get another answer also as I have a very limited understanding of Thai, just learning also
Hi, great site
very helpful. Could you help me say:
Thank you for having me in your heart, you are in mine.
Thank’s
Well, one possible solution might be :
ขอบคุณที่ยังมีฉันในใจคุณเสมอคุนก็อยู่ในใจผมเสมอครับ
Khop khun thee yang mee chan nai jai sameeu khun gaaw yuu nai jai phom sameeu khrap
I can not deduct if You are he or she if You are female it would be :
ขอบคุณที่ยังมีฉันในใจคุณเสมอคุนก็อยู่ในใจดิฉันเสมอค่ะ
Khop khun thee yang mee chan nai jai sameeu khun gaaw yuu nai jai dechan sameeu kha
/John
In moments of passion, my girlfriend repeats a phrase which sounds like ‘Oh wei’ – I don’t know what it means, but I hope it’s not unflattering.
My favorite phrase is, You are my angel. (koon keu nung fa kong pom) คุณคือนางฟ้าของผม
Thank you Steve for a great website.
You’re welcome Mike, glad you like it
Please translate Teelok or Tee Lok… just guessing but I think it means funny girlfriend or funny sweetheart but please difine the correct meaning for me. Thank you!
I think you may mean “tee rak” note the r rather than your l.
Nothing “funny” about it at all…just sweetheart, love (noun), or whatever else you would call your loved one
Theerak ที่รัก thee is a classifier or as in this case a prefix to a verb, making it a noun, the verb being rak (may sound like luk in some parts of the country, but still spells rak) รัก love, so theerak mean the person who I love, when used it is mostly used as english speaking lovers use the word “darling”
Thanks Thailandmusings for a great blog. I’m halfway down the first section with one girl and she always smiles at me.
How do I say: are you a top or bottom?
Just FYI Steve man Love at first site ISN’T รักแรกพบ that would be like saying I loved you since i first met you. The correct translation is รักแรกแบบสายฟ้าแลบ the reason this is the proper translation is because just like line of lightning from your eyes to her your meaning is exactly to do with sight. if you say met that would mean the entire meeting let you to love her.
Hey Chris,
Thanks for the possible correction…I’ll pass it by Golf and see what she says since she helped with the translations in the first place.
And thanks too for commenting because it reminded me I have something here from you still that I haven’t posted…it sucks getting old.
I like – are you free tonight? Wang. I just answer wang to everything, and it gives me my own personal satisfaction. Sick, yes… satisfying, oh sure. Here’s a list of what I said to Thai girls when I lived in Patong after first arriving…
How much? Tao rai kup
Another beer. Kor bia eek kup
You like pizza? chawp pizza mai
Mao mai? Are you drunk?
Chawp farang mai? You like foreigners?
Bpy doo-ay, mai? You want to go too?
Ow Mai? Want it?
That’s about the extent of everything I said in Thai for the first few months. I didn’t learn much more after that either!
Cheers man…
LOL…yeah I guess that’s about all you would need to know in Patong man.
Hello I have been working with this woman for several monthst now and I can’t stop thinking about her. She on my mind from the tome I wake til I fall asleep and ecru night I dream of her and I growing old together. We exchange conversation and smiles and even some flirtting but I have not had the courage to ask her out. She speaks English very well…I want to ask her out but I don’t know what to say without offending the very traditional life she leads. Please helpful Mathea is the most beautiful flower I’ve ever seen and I don’t want miss out on being able to express that to her
If she speaks English well then just ask her out as you would in your own country. Be polite and respectful and you’ll be fine.
Please remember if she is so special and wonderful woman she will also have an understanding of tolerance for your little mistakes due to you enthusiasm.
Also remember you love the woman, and her family, and the relations and possibly have to support some if not all of them.
I myself support a very large extended family, including houses x 4, cars x 3 plus everything else.
But then I love my Thai wife very much.
I want to say to a girl that when I see her it is love at first sight รักแรกพบ…but I want to say it happens every time I see her.
Would this work รักแรกพบ…ครั้งแล้วครั้งเล่า
thx
hey i met a thai girl last month in thailand and she doesnt speak much english i want to ask her for her address so i can send her a birthday present how do i type it in thai ?????
ask her postal address
Hello there Steve, I want to thank you and Golf for putting this website up. It sure makes it a lot easier to let my girl friend here in Saensuk, Chonburi, know how I feel and there is even a wedding in the future, how cool is that. Keep up the great work John.
You’re very welcome John. I’m glad its helping you and your girlfriend and wish the best to you both.
It would be nice, for a change, if you, or someone else, could give advice to a farang women in a relationship with a Thai man. Speaking as an English woman recently separated from her Thai husband because of domestic violence towards her. Please don’t always assume it’s only farang men who seek Thai women, it can be the other way round.
You are right but I think you should find a Thai man who won’t treat you like your a Thai lady ie violence. I`m not saying Thai men are bad as there are good and bad in every race maybe you should find one that doesn’t hit you. My advice to you is you should find someone else. Thai men are not always known for treating their women good but then again you might get lucky and find a good one. They are out there just don’t go looking in the bars.
Or just come back to Farangs, isn’t that why Thai women come to the other side?
no, most of the time it’s for the money. The rest of the time it’s for the look… or for better sex. But there is plenty of Thai that are romantic and sweet.
Best advise is to seek a good family. Money is not what is important it is if you can find a mutual love
I wonder about someone who is in such a
relationship that they are considering
marriage soon and needs to be told how
to speak to his/her spouse.
hello its called language difference and I know what I want to say just not in her language and I think I speak for a lot of people I am fluent in 3 languages, however, Thai is not one of them so please before you make a comment like that consider the many variables that are involved.
I remember a dodgy pick up phrase from many years ago. “Yak long na ja?”
As it was explained to me it basically meant “Do you want to test me out?” but was a slang way of saying “Let’s f**k and see if we’re compatible”.
Korp Khun mak mak Khrup! For making this website! It is so thoughtful and all of us whose hearts belong to kon Thai’s appreciate your efforts
Fun Dee Na,
~Mayk~
Hi Ben,
Roughly means “Finally it’s over. Thank god”.
Hi may i know what is the meaning of ~สิ้นสุดกันสักที~ ไร้สาระ
Hi Paul, it means ok darling.
it actually means ok my love.
Hey. My girlfriend just texted me “Ok ka tee ruk”. Any idea what that means?
ok = ok
ka = being polite
tee ruk = my love
ok my love.
Could you tell me what lik jid means? Also wondering what lok jid means.
lok jid means your insane bro! I get it all the time.
Dear Steve, most of your readers seem satisfied with your advice, regrettably I am not. My fiancee and I plan to marry next August in Thailand.I printed off your ” Thai Love Phrases “,and with the intention of being amusing and showing my enthusiasm for her language I used one of your expressions. The atmosphere on our Skype conversation became suddenly cold, she said I was being ” very rude “, and after several refusals to explain what had offended her, she merely said ” I’m a University-educated woman, you speak to me as if I’m a common whore “. No amount of apologies could elicit what I/your dictionary had incorrectly translated. ” Can you give me one more chance ?” you may wish to comment. The phrase was ” hai aow-gat pom eek-krang dai mai “! sincerely alan.
The translation is not from a dictionary, it is from my university educated Thai wife. She suggests that possibly your pronunciation was to blame for the misunderstanding. The translation though is correct. Perhaps if you are asking for “one more chance” your fiancee is being overly sensitive?
Steve, unfortunately Alan is correct it is wrongly transcripted into english letters…
เอา = aow = want (often used in sexual meaning “I want You”)
โอกาส = sala or as vovel, should transcribe into orgaat, meaning chance or opportunity.
ให้โอกาสผมอีกครั้งได้ไหม = hai or gaat phom eek khrang dai mai, would be “correct”
Regards.
Mai loo wa tur ja jer khun eig What does this mean in Eng thanks!
Have no idea that she will see you again.
I checked this with my Thai language teacher and my “university” educated GF. Both agreed there is nothing wrong with saying this…i fear you might be trolling!
ta.
With much experience behind this comment I advise to let her go.
This type of woman will never be a good wife. Head strong and always want to be the winner, you will be a servant to this woman in the worst way. I apologize if I hurt your feeling but you need to seriously reconsider where you stand in a relationship.
